Could one of you fine people link me or post some basic grocery prices? My darling, loving, sweet husband is saying that milk is over $5 a gallon in Anchorage right now. I say it's not, that it's probably near what we're paying here ($2.99).

Settle an argument?

I don't know about Anchorage, but the Juneau Costco has 2% milk for $2.79 a gallon. I think you'll find that fresh veggies and fruit tends to cost a lot more and most other things just a little more or the same. If you shop sales, you can get by fairly well. Gas is one thing that never dropped like the lower 48. The price now in Juneau is $2.07/gal.

Gas in Vegas right now is $2.10 or so.

It's $1.80 here in San Antonio and rising.

I budgeted $2.70 for fuel for the drive in August. We'll be heading from here to Colorado Springs, then north to Mt. Rushmore, then east to our cabin in northern WI, and then NW from there through Man/Sask/Alb/BC/Yuk to Alaska, getting on the Alcan at Calgary.

Estimating that the trip from WI to AK is going to take about 6 days.. has anyone done that version of it?

Alcan officially starts at Dawson Creek. Know what you meant though.

Instead of taking Highway 1 from Manitoba to Calgary, you can save time by taking Canadian Highway 16 up through Saskatchewan, may save you time instead of going to Calgary and then north to Edmonton.
