We are coming up next Sat. for 8 days,if Redoubt lets us get in! Sooo excited! We can't come up to stay until after I retire at the end of June. I can't wait to see our new condo for real and not just in pictures. (My husband saw it when he was looking a properties last summer.) We are not bringing any furniture up with us when we do move up for good, so during this trip we will be exploring places to buy furniture. Here in upstate NY we have local artisans who make great furniture at prices a little higher then the big box stores. We would much rather support a local craftsman then a big box store if possible. The problem is that these local artisans can often only be found by word of mouth because they do not come up on an internet searches. If anyone knows of a local furniture builder we would appreciate any contact info. Can't wait to call Alaska Home!

They are not local artisans, but we have always gotten good sturdy furniture from R K Furniture. They also carry Amish furniture.

Yes, there are probably hundreds of small artisans up here. Unfortunately you just missed both the Anchorage and Mat-Su home builder shows these last two weekends. Also, many of them show up at the State Fair in Sept. You can also check out the weekly Anchorage Market & Festival street fair, but that doesn't start up for a few more weeks. However, this is the Father of one of my friends out in Wasilla:

Wood Craft Furniture - Country Wood Craft

and a couple others I know about:

Alaska Log Furniture - Bedrooms, Living Rooms, Sets of Furniture, Single Pieces and More!

If you need time also before finding new with what you want, plenty of Craigslist, Alaskalist free or to buy furniture to use until you find what you want.

Cal.........

I remember his ads from Western Washington back in the 70's and maybe 80's. I thought he was dead until ads popped up in Anchorage.
