If I rent a camper in Anchorage and travel within the state what can I expect as far as places to stay, camp fees, facilities at camp areas, need for reservations or other obstacles I might not forsee? I have never traveled in an RV. Good idea or bad? Thanks.

RV camping in AK can be quite different than what you find in other states. There are actually very few "campgrounds" in AK. Furthermore most campgrounds will not have RV hook-ups. During the summer time these campgrounds will often be full. However if you are willing to be creative in where you camp, then RV camping can be loads of fun. There are lots of places along the highways where you can pull off down by a river or lake for the night. Be sure to get plenty of bug spray. The bugs are ruthless.

RV camping is great, always have your bed and bathroom with you, don't need bugs pray unless you get out! hahaha.
Out of towns state campgrounds charge fees, normally just down the road is a wide spot or pull out with a view thats free...
Having a Milepost travel guide along is very helpful and worth the $. They are available everywhere, just ask.
