Moving to Anchorage (Eagle: best neighborhoods, homes, neighborhoods)

Hello All,

My family and I are moving to Anchorage this summer from Olympia, Washington. We have a 7yr old that will start the 2nd grade. Looking at best neighborhoods/schools. 30+ minute commute is just fine.

I would look at Southeast Anchorage and the Hillside. Homes are higher priced, but schools are better as well.

Tee - hee: just about everything is a 30 minute commute.

Ravenwood Elementary in Eagle River is one of the best in ASD. There are some communities near Ravenwood School with bike trails.

Birchwood ABC School & Northern Lights ABC School both also get high ratings.

O'Malley Elementary is another good one as is Bear Valley Elementary & a number of hillside schools.

You can go to ASD website ASD Online -- The Web Site of the Anchorage School District and look at the school report card for each school in the district.

Housing is expensive in Alaska. Alaska is a nice state but it's too cold for me. I like it hot & dry.

We're moving from Wa are most likely as well. My hubby grew up in Olympia. We are moving with 2 small boys. I have been doing a little research and Eagle Ridge keeps coming up. I will keep checking this thread for tips. Thanks.
