I am hoping to find a house to rent either in the Eagle River area or Wasilla. I think I'd prefer Wasilla (I like smaller towns. . . I currently live in a town of 700). But my husband would have to commute to Anchorage. I'm wondering, realistically, how long the commute is from Wasilla, both on good roads and not so good ones.

Why are you moving to Anchorage and where, if I may ask?

What part of Anchorage will he be commuting to? It makes a big difference. From my house on the south side it's a good 45 minute drive to Wasilla on dry roads and no traffic. I would expect he is looking at 1 hr+ in wintry conditions, even longer should there be some kind of foul-up on the road. My boss commutes to Mid-town Anchorage from Eagle River and can sometimes spend well over an hour on the highway when conditions get bad. I thank god every day that I only have a quick 10 minute drive into the office!

Actually, I was born in S. Cal.

As for why, that's not so important . . . I'm just concerned about the commute.

In looking at the address, it's in Northern Anchorage, basically just below Elmendorf. Looks like it's just a little ways from where the Glen highway becomes E. 5th Ave.

Eagle River is much smaller then Wasilla. Have you looked at the Wilkepedia for both? It gives the population count, albeit from the year 2000, however, as I said Eagle River is smaller. Lots of info on the net.

When I looked up the populations it says that the 2000 census for Wasilla showed a population of 5469 with an esitmated 9780 in 2007.
Wasilla, Alaska - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2000 census, according to wikipedia, shows Eagle River having a population of 22,236 with another 8000 northeast of Eagle River.

That's because there are 5 settlements outside of Eagle River which are considered to be a part of Eagle River: Chugiak, Birchwood, Peters Creek, Thunderbird Falls and Eklutna which are spread out. This is further down under the Demographics section.

This one may be a little more accurate.
