I read that they are building a Walgreens in Anchorage, does anyone know anything about that? What is the most national pharmacy up there in Anchorage/Eagle River area, or recommendations on local ones? I need to get my scripts transferred. I use Walgreens now, but not in a week and a half...

There are two Walgreens being built in Anchorage at this time. There is one being built and will probably be completed in the next 60 days on Debarr and Muldoon. There is another being built on Dimond Blvd. Neither of these will be ready in the time frame that it sounds like you will need them.

Carrs Grocery may be your best bet since they are a Safeway subsidy. Your other best option would likely be a Fred Meyers. Of course, if you wish you can always go Walmart style.

I ended up getting a travel advance on my prescriptions at the CVS I normally use at home in NC. Was worried about the same thing.
i called the insurance company first to determine if my policy included that as an option, and it did. So then to CVS. My prescriptions are all 90 day ones, so just like that I got enough pills to last me until Sept. I was surprised it was so easy. Good luck.

Any idea where the one on Dimond Blvd will be located? When are they projected to open?

Next to the Monster Wash across from Fred Meyers. Northwood and Dimond basically.

I used Walgreens for my prescription back in Las Vegas (I moved up here last fall) and had my prescriptions transferred to Fred Meyers. I'll probably transfer them back to Walgreens as I really liked them.

I always thought that was pretty strange, that Alaska didn't have any freestanding drugstores like Walgreens, CVS, etc. They're so convenient for general merchandise to quickly run in and pick up a few items. It seems like a bit of a hardship not to have them available. They're on practically every corner in the lower 48.

Oh...for me...back to Walgreens.

Nothing like filling Rx online and then driving thru...using fastpay...

Entire process takes maybe 5 minutes...ordering...picking up...(exclusive of drive time).

I must admit Walgreens was about the ONLY thing I missed when I moved here. I hate to wait in line...hate to go into a store just to get Rx.

I'm doing the happy dance.

Terrible to be old and have a monthly Rx :-( Just damn glad I have insurance.
