Hello.
My family and I are moving to Anchorage. We are looking for a house but now sure what the best neighborhoods are in the town. I also am looking for work in the environmental field. Are the job scarce there? I also (last question) wanted to know about the weather. I was told that there are 6 months of dusk and a few months of long long days in the summer. Can someone please clarify.
thanks

You should look into Fairview, it's a great place to stay. Don't know about the jobs. There is no sunlight for six months. Good luck.

In the fall, daylight gradually decreases until the winter solstice, around December 21, when the sun rises about 10 am and sets around 3:30pm. Then the days start to gradually lengthen until the summer solstice, around June 21, when the sun rises about 4 am and sets about 11:30pm. The process then repeats. As I posted in another thread, there is no geographical point in Alaska, or on any land mass in the northern hemisphere for that matter, where you get 6 months of darkness in the winter. Technically, such a thing (6 mos dark or light) is only possible at two points on the planet, the exact geographical poles. However, if you define darkness as also not including civil twilight where the sun is within 6 degrees of the horizon, then the scenario of 6 months of darkness never occurs anywhere on planet earth.

Jewel Lake, Sand Lake, Rabbit Creek, Independence Park - good neighborhoods with decent schools.

Thank you everyone. We actually found a hose not to far from my husbands work. Now I just need to find a job!
