I looked at the pictures. The Yaktrax look somewhat like springs. I'm sure they aren't but they resemble that. They are a little cheaper than the Stabilicers too. They both look good on the pictures, but I may have to see a pair to make a decision. Oh, I liked the boots that they were on too!!!!

I think the Yaktrax work similar to tire chains. I use Get-a-Grip:

Get-A-Grip

They are easy slip on and slip off, so you can take them off once you reach non-icy pavement.

akck - you had me confused when you talked about tire chains and Get-a-Grip. I anticipated opening up the link to look at tire chains!!! It has been a long day!!!

Some folks power-screw sheetmetal screws in their running/hiking shoes or boot for cheap traction.

lol...I did that to my walking shoes. I use them in the winter to bike to work. Has studded tires for the bike, too.
