Hi, I am looking at renting an apartment on Birchwood & 15th Avenue. Can anyone tell me about the neighborhood? Also it does not have garaged parking, are vehicles pretty safe? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am not familiar with that area. It is a block off of Debarr Rd, which has a lot of rush hour traffic. I think there is an elementry school a block away so there will be a lot of kids walking thru that area. There is an airport close by. However I don't think there will be a lot of airplane noise due to the terrain. I could be wrong though. There is a major hospital a block away. There is a shopping center about 5 blocks away. As you car being bothered it is hit or miss. Vandalism of cars seems to bounce around different areas of town. I do not think your area would be any worse than other parts of town.

Thanks Alaska Mutt! It will only be for 3 months as it is temporary housing. I am a little concerned moving into an area sight unseen.

That's Airport Heights- I have always liked that side of Airport Heights & particularly that neighborhood. I have several groups of friends who live there & love it. They say it's a very friendly neighborhood. For years we looked for a house to buy in that neighborhood; however, most of the Airport Heights houses sit on a 850 sq ft foot print with 1 bath, thus tiny! The neighborhood has easy access to Chester Creek Trail which links to a trail system throughout town for biking, walking as well as skiing. Your address is near Airport Heights Elementary. 15th is a dead-end in that neighborhood, so it is not a thru street with a lot of traffic like 20th. All I can say IMHO it has always been one of my husband's & my favorite neighborhoods in town.

Is there an area of Anchorage that has more single people? I have a friend who may be getting transferred up there for work (oil business of course). He's late 20's so interested in pubs and such...any walkable areas so he can stumble around?
