I had to move up here because of my dad's failing health. I'm a marketing professional with proven success and yet I have not been able to find a job. I had to settle for an hourly wage summer position. My savings has been eaten up and now I don't have enough money to leave the state. My dad recently passed but there is no "will" or any financial windfall.

If you really want to move up here, then just have enough saved so that you can leave if you need to.

There just aren't enough jobs. It's downright embarrassing to admit that I've been out of work for a while after my start up business failed when I ran low on cash. I don't blame anyone but myself, but my timing could not have been worse.

I'm now a single 40 year old guy, and it's hard to keep my head up while going through this. I've got a lot of skills, but it seems like it doesn't matter anymore. This is a really brutal time. I have my truck, and a travel trailer to sleep in until I find work, and I know how to live ON THE CHEAP, but I can only hold out for so long. If I could find somewhere to park my trailer for an inexpensive monthly amount, I could make it close to a year. I might just go for it this spring. As long as I don't run into any major truck problems (I can repair most things myself unless it's a tranny or something), perhaps I'll get lucky. I really need some good luck soon. I feel like I'm dying on the vine.
How do you feel about really small cold towns? I might know of a place in Alaska where you could get a start, and it is really a place where someone with an entreprenurial spirit and a good idea could make a killing!

I used to work as mortgage processor, for #2 and then for #1 lenders in the country. Those jobs are long gone. Looking for any type of admin, nothing I haven't done in an office enviroment and have top notch references. But that aint worth a hill of beans anymore, was just told on my last "rejection" that for every job posted they are recieving over 1,000 resumes. The employers who bother to post only look at a few resumes and chose from those, the rest in the trash. All the contacts I have can't help me now, but the story is the same for 7 million of us around the country. Working on ideas to renew my medical background, but those jobs are almost non-existant around here also. Enough of my sob story, I have the most wonderful kids and grandbabies, so I'm rich in love

City of Delta Junction ~ Home Page

Not a huge job market here but there are so many unmet needs in this town. There are plenty of small family run restaurants, gas stations/convenience stores, liquor stores, specialty shops, a couple of auto parts stores and hardware stores and motels, but there is one grocery store in town. For those with Ft. Greely base access they can shop in the px or commissary. Dry goods are in limited supply and are very expensive compared to Fairbanks prices, things like diapers, ibuprofen, stuff you'd pick up at a Wal-Mart. Also, last I heard the local furnace repairman was wanting to retire but the only other place for that was in Fairbanks, 100 miles away. You just have to identify what is lacking that wouldn't be a luxury item. If I had more resources I would look there.

You mentioned looking for jobs in the classifieds... Did you try the State of Alaska Jobs website at Alaska Job Center Network
