Isn't it the perfect place for the NHL? What are your thoughts, and the possibility of Anchorage getting a team!!

It will never happen. Not a large enough fan base to support it. Not to mention traveling would kill their profit.

Imagine having to fly from Anchorage to Boston, or vice versa. Airline tickets to get out of this state are $500+ RT. Sullivan wouldn;t hold enough people and there is nowhere to build a larger stadium. Here let's take a different route on answering this. This is what you would need to have an NHL Team in Anchorage.

New Stadium (Sullivan Arena has too small of a capacity and crappy facilities)

A Supersonic Jet so yo ucan fly to Boston if needed for a game. (Commercial

Airliner would be about $600 RT and 13 Hours travel time, each way)
Some kind of crazy marketing strategy to fill your seats.

There are no Juneau commuters....

Yeah, travelling costs would be too steep. LA to Boston is only about 3,000 miles apart. Anchorage to LA is nearly 3500 miles alone. What about playing teams on the east coast? Anchorage to Boston is nearly 5000 miles apart.

I don't disagree that there are plenty of hockey fans up there. It's just not a financially sound option for the NHL.

Perhaps they can play one game a year up there though. They've been holding that NHL Classic game for the past couple years, where they play at some outdoor venue. Maybe they could start another annual event up in Anchorage, just so you Alaskans can get a taste of the NHL. I wouldn't mind seeing an All-Star game played up there either.

Flying in state is way more expensive than flying out of state. It sucks. Alaska Airlines has such a monopoly!
