Three suggestions:

The local seven days/week newspaper was called The Ann Arbor News. Within the past year it has become a nearly on-line only document (hard copy published twice weekly on Thursday and Sunday) called AnnArbor.com. Watching their web site for local news and home builder information may be helpful. Ann Arbor News, Blogs, Events & Discussion - AnnArbor.com

Another source of information is the Builders and Remodelers Association of Ann Arbor. They hold annual events such as tours of remodeled homes, tours of newly constructed homes, an indoor show highlighting home builders/remodelers/ and new products. From a quick look at their website it appears no New Home Tour was held in 2011, and the 2010 show was less then 25% of its usual size. Luckily the 2012 show is already scheduled as the local economy is truly improving. Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Ann Arbor

You can also see all properties currently for sale or rent in Washtenaw County on the following website. http://reone.mapmuse.com/re1/map_reone_re3.php?&theme=REO&init=41.869,-71.856,8&tlist=REONE,, You may need to enter Ann Arbor in the search box located on the bottom right hand side of the page.

What is your price range for newer homes?

Kirkland Hills is a subdivision in Ann Arbor with newer 3-4 bedroom homes in the $200,000s-$400,000s range (approximately).

The Pines at Lake Forest is close to Kirkland Hills and features more expensive homes between $500,000-$600,000, some of which have never been occupied.

These are the only neighborhood that comes to mind, honestly (though I am sure others are out there). Construction has declined within recent years, and many of the newer subdivisions were built in the late 1990s.

Some of these somewhat newer subdivisions that come to mind include:

-Foxfire
This development is located in NE A2, was built between 1991-2006, has prices are between high $100,000s to mid $400,000s, is within close proximity to U of M North Campus, close to many parks, has the following schools schools: Logan Elementary, Clague Middle, and Skyline High, and has very good access to Detroit suburbs such as Plymouth, Northville, and Canton.

-Lake Forest
There are multiple sections of Lake Forest. The Hills and The Highlands at Lake Forest have homes priced in the $300,000s, and the homes were built in the mid to late 90s. The other Lake Forest has larger homes on larger lots that typically are priced between $400,000-$500,000. The Pines at Lake Forest is the newest area and has even larger homes, as mentioned above. Schools are Bryant, Pattengill, Tappan, and Pioneer.

-Briar Hill
Built in late 1980s and the 1990s, Briar Hill is similar to Lake Forest, with homes ranging in the upper $300,000s to the $400,000s. Same schools as Lake Forest.

-Hawthorne Ridge and Boulder Ridge
Similar to The Hills at Lake Forest, with homes built in the late 1990s in the upper $200,000s to $300,000s. Very close to Pittsfield Township Library, Target, Meijer, etc.

-Stonebridge
This is a community with a golf course. The homes are newer, and the neighborhood is composed of condominiums to large single-family homes. Homes start in the $300,000s and climb to the $700,000s. Some of this large development goes to Saline schools.

Also, don't forget to look in the more historic neighborhoods of downtown Ann Arbor, as their location and proximity to all of Ann Arbor's amenities may appeal to you.

Where are the new builders? BANKRUPT. Centex homes was building in the surrounding area, as was Pulte, but I believe they both pulled out of the market. A few smaller builders took over some of their development (Lombardo Homes comes to mind), but there is very little new home building going on, with the exception of some really high priced custom homes.
