I am hoping to take a few baking classes there in the next 6 months, and I would like a nice hotel or bed and breakfast in walking distance. When I look at the reviews of Ann Arbor hotels, they are not very good. Can anyone suggest a nice place near Zingerman's? Also, is the nearest airport in Detroit. If I fly, it will be out of Philly. If we drive, I will need a pet-friendly hotel and it doesn't necessarily need to be in walking distance.

Has anyone taken a baking class with them? I have been planning this for a while, but I have never seen reviews of the classes.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi! I work for Zingerman's and my office is right by the Bake! classroom, which is located on the southside of town by the airport, not the Deli area down in Kerrytown.

There is a new Hilton Garden Inn less than 2 miles away, but you wouldn't want to walk (highway overpass, construction, general madness).

Thank you. Maybe I can get DH to drive there with me. I didn't know that all their businesses were not in the same location.

I'm currently staying in the extended stay right next door to the Hilton Garden Inn. I'd recommend skipping the Hilton because like the Extended Stay, it butts right up to 94 and is very loud.

There is a reason why I'm on C-D at 3am instead of sleeping.

The Sheraton is about a mile from here and seems much nicer.

Have you asked Zingerman's for advice? If a lot of students are coming from out of town, you'd think they would have some arrangement with a hotel for discounted rates.

I do plan to call them once I decide what classes that I am going to take. I am hoping to see some type of package with several classes on a weekend. Not sure what Ann Arbor's weather is like in January since Delaware generally has little snow and really isn't very cold. Their January class is French baguettes, which I want to take, but I really want to take another class while I am out there.

January is pretty brutal: highs in the lower 30s, lows in the teens. Usually a snow storm every week, anywhere from 1-5 inches is common. Snow often partially melts between storms so it rarely accumulates to more than 6-8 inches or so. A big storm might dump 8-10 inches, possibly once or twice a winter. Snow is plowed pretty quickly though. We don't shut down unless we get a big storm. We have long stretches (several says) without sunshine.

Pretty bleak. I hate our winters, but our summers can't be beat, so I stay.

Thanks for the info. I guess that I will wait until spring. I am going to call Zingerman's, though, because there might be an airport shuttle to some of the hotels. I am really not used to cold weather and lots of snow.
