This is a really good way to describe what I was trying to get at. It seems like you cannot get away from it. Maybe out at the fringes of town like someone said. The odd thing is they will butt in to other people's conversations. I ahve not seen this to this extreme anywhere else (but then I have never been to Austin).

As I suggested earlier that seems to be more a downtown/campus-town thing. I don't experience that at all where I hang out. To be specific.....
Banfields (Packard/Platt) , SE side
Frasers (Packard/Brockman), S Central side
Chili's (Arborland), SE side
Wolverine Brewery (Stadium/Pauline) , SW side
the short lived now defunct Village Pub (Washtenaw/Pittsfield across from Paesano) SE side

Please, folks - let's stay on topic and have some more people answer the questions in my little quiz. I'd love to gather more responses about A2. Thanks!

It would be helpful for you to decide what part of the country you would like to live in, first.

Not really.

This little questionnaire is one way to help me figure that out. I've narrowed down to a list of places I'd consider after doing some preliminary reading and now I want to use the personal opinions of other transplants to help me come up with a short list.

I'm only asking for opinions from anyone who feels game, and would rather people not debate with each other about the opinions that are stated here. I'm not asking anyone to solve the issues of my life for me.

I think you would fit in nicely with the downtown crowd.

Since I don't yet know very much about Ann Arbor, I have't a clue what you mean by that! So, if it was a dig, it went right over my head. The little rolling eyes smiley makes it seem like it's not a compliment.

Oh well... anyone else want to weigh in on life in Ann Arbor as a transplant?

To tell you the truth, there is only 1 regular poster on the Ann Arbor forum who is young and semi-transplant (Brodie734). The Ann Arbor forum has only a few regular posters actually. There is another contributor who posts sporadically, named GoBlueA2. You can message her/him

I grew up in the other and better college town in Michigan. Go State! And returned after living overseas as an expat. We chose A2 thinking it would be similar to EL. Both social and economic diversity plus a strong school district. I never spent anytime here except on Game Day.

I say Meh! It's overpriced and the taxes are insane. The schools are thought of as better because it's Ann Arbor but I'm not that impressed. And we are renting in one of the top school areas. It's walkable in some areas but not really you technically could be without a car but you would need to be on one of the better bus line areas.

Now that I have kids I did not want to go back to Oakland county because I didn't like the keeping up with the Jones type of mentality but A2 has it as well. It's either how liberal or conservative you are or how quirky you are or where you shop ( hint hint its expensive if you shop there you would know) Yawn!!! If the college town is selling condos for 1 million + it's not really a college town anymore.

I'm glad we rented first. We are moving to Ypsi and doing private school. It's a city with heart and trying to be pretentious

Is A2 bad? No but it's definitely not the A2 it used to be and people are still rating it based on that nostalgia.

Sorry I meant NOT trying to be pretentious.
