Hi Friends,
I am planning to purchase home in Ann Arbor this month. From your recent experience, Could you let me know a few best mortgage lenders that are genuine and who do care about their customers. I have researched online and found lenders like Summit funding, Academy Mortgage, Quicken etc, but wanted to know what you all recommend.

Thanks so much for your help.

All I would care about is fees and interest rates. Sooner or later the mortgage will get sold anyway. I'm on my 3rd or 4th lender all because each one sold me to another one. My only advice is to get a fixed rate. 15 or 30 but not a variable rate. I think interest rates will only go up. But that is just a personal opinion.

ARMs are fine if you are living somewhere short term.

If you are living somewhere short term you probably should rent. Otherwise you run a big risk of being upside down in the mortgage with no equity or worse negative equity.

I am very happy with Quicken. They were fast, professional and easy to deal with. They kept my loan and remain easy to deal with if we have any questions or issues.

However, I tried to use them about five years earlier, and I got assigned to a guy who was clearly on drugs of some kind, or maybe he had to have half of his brain removed. Either way that guy was impossible to deal with and I went elsewhere.

The second time I went through a friend who worked there. He got me assigned to a manager who is specifically for relatives and friends of employees. He was awesome to work with.

Their rate was a smidge higher than two other companies we were considering, but when all the costs and fees settled out, it was all about the same. I really liked the fact they kept our loan. I do not like having our loan sold and re-sold. Sooner or later you end up having to deal with DB companies.

My mortgage was through Denise McPherson-Pratt (Old National Bank). Super responsive and helpful and works evenings, as well.
