There are a few big lakes up US-23, approx 15 min north of Brighton. Really lovely $500k-5m lakefront homes. Just wondering if anyone has familiarly with that area. Public schools don't seem great, so I'm not sure of long-term risk? Downtown Fenton is charming, sort of a Clarkston or Milford vibe. But away from lakes and new subs, many of the side streets in southern Genesee County look extremely trashy, run down cars, unkept porches. Any insights appreciated.

Drive US-23 both directions during the week day times which will be your commuting hours. MDOT recently added a third lane for part of the route but US23 is still a frighteningly busy and undersized expressway.

Earlier or later commutes compared to the vast majority of drivers should be no problem. Commuting the opposite direction, (from the AA area to the Brighton/Milford area for work) is said to be much easier too.

We recently moved to Linden and lived in Fenton for 20+ years before that. I work in Ann Arbor. I find the commute to be much improved now that they opened the Flex Lane. I rarely have problems anymore. However I work 7am-3pm so I avoid the busiest times and work at home a couple of days a week also.

A good friend of mine lives between Hamburg and Whitmore Lake and commutes to Toledo. He has said the same thing

Lol that half as sed flex lane on 23 is completely useless especially if you are going north. It does not even reach I-96. Just MDOT being cheap as usual.
