I have currently employed at the Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti. I currently commute from the Toledo, OH area, and would like to move closer. I went to school at EMU, so am a little familiar with with the depot area. Are there any recommended apartment complexes in the township in the area of $600-650/mo? What are the approximate utility costs?

Check Craig's list. I haven't lived in the campus area for a while, though I still attend classes. Generally you would want to stay in the apartments on the school side of Huron.. as the ones "across the tracks" were generally a little dicier. There are some nice apartments across the tracks now (next to some less desirable ones) - but they are student only, I believe.

Try "normal parks neighborhood" -- from Summit to Mansfield, from MI ave to Cross. It is a nice neighborhood across from the University. There used to be a couple of nice buildings in there, one was at the corner of Mansfield and Congress. I used to live there. The apartments are large, relatively speaking - though the rent may be high by now.

You may get good deals at the GIANT sprawling apartment complexes - either along Washtenaw, or along Hewitt near the stadium. These used to have names like "international place" and "Spicetree" - some are better than others, but because these often catered to students, crime like petty theft and even minor assault was fairly high. (Typical with a tranistory population).

I used to rent a Condo in a neighborhood called Wyngate - it is near Ford Lake off Harris. Actually a very nice Condo community (smaller townhome style condos, with one garage bay). A number of people in their worked for Ford at Willow Run. The lifestyle is less college and more residential. Many people unfamiliar with Ypsi do not like the neighborhood surrounding the condos, but really it is all right - just lower blue collar.

There are definitely areas of Ypsi that border on what used to be called projects - including residential neighborhoods, public housing areas, and apartment complexes. They are obvious once you get in to them. I would not reccommend them if you have other alternatives.

However there are areas of Ypsi that are very safe and pleasant to live ... with some research and driving around, you should be able to find some options!

GOod luck!
