Because it's not. It doesn't have the mass of ESB up top, and if it gets to count that little toothpick as a spire, I see no reason why ESB can't count it's antennae, which architecturally works in my eyes, and is taller.
Kudos for coming up with a completely unique thread that passed the test.
That's the way these buildings are measured. The Sears tower is taller than Freedom tower under the criteria you laid out.

I continue to view the Sears Tower as the tallest in the country. No cheating with spires! And the cheating will continue and continue as the Freedom Tower set the pace for this madness!
So a developer builds a 900 foot tower, and places a 600 foot spire on top, and now we have the newest tallest in the country?
I'm not surprised that the "kings and queens" of the San Francisco hills cut the Salesforce tower down to 1100 feet but it's my fav of the 4, the Vista being my least fav.
The Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas was planned to go up to 2000 feet, but the FAA chopped it down to 1149 feet!

I agree, I think Salesforce is by far the best looking. I hate the Comcast tower, its just clunky and boxy. Wilshire is nice but a little disappointing in actual height. Vista, Im not sure yet.
