I am looking to go on a short trip by myself. It will have deep meaning (because of the reason why I am going) so I want to be sure the place I go to has a spiritual feeling to it, a place where I can connect with Mother Nature. I live in Abq. and I will be driving. I don't want to go too far away (more than a 12-hour drive). I am looking for someplace in AZ that has the following qualities:

1. Fairly safe
2. Fairly quiet
2. Fairly inexpensive
3. SMALL (less than 5,000 residents and fewer than 1,000 if possible)
4. Good picture taking opportunities
5. Not too far of a drive from Abq.

Page, AZ. If you're a photographer, you might want to consider hooking up with Overland Adventures for one of their photo tours of the slot canyons or other places. Otherwise, there are tons of other places to explore and photograph on your own.

Welcome. I'm not an expert, but I've been there a few times. Of the top of my head, here are a few places to see in and around Page.

1) Toad Stools
2) Horseshoe Bend
3) Slot Canyons (Upper Antelope Canyon, Lower Antelope, Canyon X (only can be done with Overland Adv).
4) The Wave
5) South Coyote Buttes
6) Lake Powell
7) Glen Canyon Dam
8) Wahweap Hoodoos. Actually, they're over the border into Utah, and a long schlep down dirt roads. But an amazing secluded place.

Kdog, did you take those photos??? They are positively gorgeous! Of course, that is too much for one trip, so much beauty, so little time. My Canon will be drooling. BUT, nothing's to say I can't go back a second, third and fourth time. That is exactly the type of spot I was looking for.

I love Sedona. But it's not cheap, and it's definitely not quiet. Also Page has far greater photo opportunities.

505, you didn't say how long of a trip this will be. Page is around 7 hours from you, and Sedona is 5.5 hours, so you'll save a little time going there. But it is very overrun by tourists. You could plan on seeing two locations a day at Page.

Thanks for the kudos on the pics. It's a hobby of mine. Here's a shot of mine at Sedona that I planned. I spent a weekend getting this.
