So here's something pretty cool that I thought I'd share. I was coming back from Vegas last night and noticed they'd just inserted the last piece of the supporting arch into the bridge. So now there's a new permanent structure going over the Colorado River. The red streak down the middle is a trail of sparks from welder who's joining the two halves of the bridge together.

I know I'm pretty excited about this bridge. Thanks for looking.

Awww kdog, aside from those being BEAUTIFUL & dramatic shots of the dam & bypass, you've made me miss Boulder City even more. (Holy Smokes, the lake is soooo low!)

I haven't stayed informed re the bypass; are the support structures on the top & sides of the arch permanent? If so, they create a very artistic & striking contrast to the '30s architecture of the dam itself. It looks cool.

kdog....thanks for the pics.....getting ready for my first digital cam purchase.....was leaning toward Canon....this confirms it.....what did you pay and when??....

have been fascinated with the new bypass since before construction began.....four lanes!.....can you believe it?....when I looked at the land before they began, I said where in the HELL can they put a bridge and four lanes approaching it from both sides??.....well, lots of cuts and lots of fill will do it, I guess......

fantastic sight!.....

Boulder City is the only town in Clark County that I like..............although, Searchlight is neat as well

And you are spot-on concerning the 'Art Deco' styling of the new bridge as well
