North Rim? I thing you are better suited going to the Utah forum, the locals there probably have more experience with the North Rim than Arizonans. It isn't very convenient to get to the North rim from anywhere south of the Canyon.

Jacob Lake Inn - Make Reservations Today!
outside the actual Park by about 45 miles

Kaibab Lodge - Accomodations Near the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park
closer to the Park, but still outside

Grand Canyon Lodge- North Rim in Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.
historic lodge on the very rim inside the Park

all of these are very casual, not fancy...some rooms are just cabins.....make reservations.....check weather.....long distances to drive..... plan ahead....$20 to enter the Park....many feel the North Rim is by far the best view of the canyon

We stayed in a cabin two nights at Jacobs Lake Inn, rooms were ok, meals a tad pricy in the dining room, eat at the cafe . . . about an hour North of the the rim, up in the pines, very nice . . . they get booked up so plan in the future, way in the future!

It's about 3 hours from JL to the South rim . . . long drive.

Gas is $0.50 - $0.75 per gallong higher so plan ahead.

but less than an hour from JL to the North Rim....so, of course, don't stay at Jacob Lake if the South Rim is your destination!.....

The jacob lake inn is the only lodging outside the park. If you want to stay at a campground or in cabins, tryy demotte campground, which is just outside the park, or you could try the North Rim campground or the Grand Canyon lodge.

No but it is better than driving from PHX to san diego. At lest it is scenic. The cliffs and the views. even though, it is 6 hours, it is well worth it. Most visitors to the north rim are from Arizona or from Las Vegas. I was there 2 weeks ago, and throughout the entire trip i saw 3 cars from utah. im sure there were more, but Most visitors are phoenicians, actually about 76 percebnt of visitors to the North Rim are from Phoenix or Tucscon, another 20 percent is from Vegas, the rest are other states. most out of staters visit the south rim. Lots of people in other states dont even know about the north rim.

The North Rim in my opinion is a lot more beautiful than the south. At elevations of over 9000ft it can be quite chilly but the views and the forests are beautiful
