I am thinking of purchasing in Sun City and live there for 4 to 5 months out of the year. Do you have to pay state income tax for the money you receive during the 4 to 5 months? I looked on the Arizona Dept. Revenue site but it is so confusing. Thanks.

What if you earn a retirement pay but not work in Arizona while you are there?

All out-of-state government pensions are taxed, if you are required to file taxes in Arizona.

You can find more info at the AZ state site.

If it's SS then no it's not taxed. Out of state gov't pensions are though.

Susan, please keep what the other posters say, about only if you are required to pay taxes in AZ are any taxes due. I spend five months in the state, less than the minimum amount required in order to have to pay taxes, thus I pay my taxes in my home state.
