I did a search and there were a lot of questions about becoming a teacher and job availability but I didn't see any questions/answers about a reciprocal agreement with another State, so here it goes.

I used to live in AZ and I loved it there. However I received a scholarship to a school in Alabama so I have been living there for the past 5 years. Now, I am graduated, certified to teach in Alabama, and I am seriously considering a move back to the Tempe/Mesa area.

My question is -- how hard is it to get an AZ teaching license based on reciprocity with another State? How long does it usually take and what kind of hoops do they make you jump through? I read something about being 'bilingual certified' or something like that?

I have a Bachelor of Arts, I went through a Teacher Education Program, I have passed the Praxis II in my content area and as I mentioned before, I am licensed in Alabama.

If anyone could give me an idea so I can plan my move accordingly, I would truly appreciate it.

Thanks!

I did, but I find it confusing (why are there two areas for Professional KNowledge and Content KNowledge? Do I still need to take the AEPA if I have already passed the Praxis and if so, how long do I have to do so? How can I find out specifics about SEI training? The questions keep coming, LOL!), so it would be so much easier to hear from a 'human' that has been through it. Also, it doesn't give an idea as to how long processing the paperwork takes.

Did you call the ADE and talk to a live person about your questions? You may not encounter someone here who went through the process recently, so if you don't get responses, that would be your option. Good luck!
