I don't care if I'm a "real Minnesotan" or not; I want to move to an area with a warmer climate someday. I'm not spending the rest of my life in these cold *** winters.

Yep. I am from the deep south. We've lived all over this country and overseas. I've heard folks say "soda", "pop", "soda pop".... But we have always called all fizzy type drinks..."Coke" or "Co-Cola". In the south, if you order a Coke, the waitress might ask you "what kind".

Dang. Where were you when I was in college studying linguistics?

I have friends who are urologists and they tell me they see more and more younger people presenting with kidney stones as in 13 year olds!!! It has to do with our diet. The increased amount of sodium and soda that is prominent in our mainstream diet today has led to increased incidence of kidney stone among young people.
That's true, one of the first things to go when I started to eat healthier was soda. It's nothing but carbonated syrup.

I grew up and live in Ohio. I had never heard "pop" called "soda" untill I went in the Army and of course met people from other parts of the country.
The first time someone suggested going to get a soda I didn't know what they meant.
I always associated soda as something Mom used when baking. Baking soda.
It will always be pop to me just as it will always be soda to people in other parts of the country.

A sucker is something that is born every minute.

A pop is something that you give a sucker in the mouth, some call it a sucker punch when they are popping you in the mouth.

A soda is a drink that can be enjoyed by all members of the family. Many flavors of soda are available for your consumption. Grape soda, Orange soda, lime soda, and the biggie, Cola flavored soda.

Pepsi is a soda that is "twice as nice over ice"

Coke is a soda that used to be the leader untill people discovered Pepsi.

Then again the other choice and the choice that my kids seem to like is Dr. Pepper, a soda that if you ask me taste like medicine, hence the name Dr. Pepper. Some day when the kids get a little taste they may switch to Pepsi. for now that isn't the case.

When I lived in Iowa I learned that if I wanted a soda I had to ask for a pop. I never wanted a pop so I started drinking water instead.

I also learned that dinner time is at noon. I always thought that Lunch was at noon and dinner time was in the evening or last meal of the day. It turns out that in Iowa Dinner time is at 12 and lunch is the thing you are eating for dinner. Supper time is the last meal of the day and if you are in Iowa that seemed to be around 5pm. Apparently Breakfast was still breakfast so we were safe there.
