I own a 1197 sq. ft. home with a 2 car garage and patio just outside of Kingman in Mohave County and have 4 acres with a horse shed and a 9x12 shed with a loft and my taxes are just a little over $700 I think. I think they are pretty low compared to my brother who lives in NJ has a big home and he pays around $14,000 a year in property taxes. My sister lives in PA, has 10 acres with a 3-story home and pays around $2500 a year I think.

Thanks horsetrail. Yes compared to this or that they are very low, but compare it to some other places and they are not necessarily low, it's a matter of perspective. But I was just trying to get an idea.

Another question - where do the locals hang out in Kingman for coffee or lunch? (I love local hangouts and one can learn a lot from those places).

In regards to water! We irrigate 1 full acre of heavy landscape and our total water bill is always $40.or less. we live 20 miles east of kingman on route 66.

Sounds like you are past Valle Vista and on out towards Hackberry. There against the Peacocks after crossing the RR tracks I have been told is a great Aquifer which supplies plentiful water.

It's a little known fact that Kingman schools -- and schools across Arizona -- were growing due to the population of illegal aliens. When 1070 hit, they lost hundreds of kids, the need for schools went down, the funding went down (it was allocated based on a per student amount) and the new high school didn't make sense, as the existing population could fit comfortably at the old-new one. That may change in the future, but as mostly retirees move in, even a return to boom days doesn't mean they'll need the new one. Of course they'd deny this - offering to show that there is no proof there was an illegal there, but then, they would never ASK any parents if they were here illegally -- thanks to the Supreme Court. So the teachers' union would always favor open borders so that would mean more teachers (especially the higher-paid "language specialists").

Though it's a monetary loss for the schools, it's a win for taxpayers! Don't buy the "cutting the funds for the kids" stuff you hear.... Though you could cut a whole bunch before they'd lay off a single administrator. Just like the city -- when the budget gets tight (IOW, when people realize there's a lot of waste) the first thing they threaten are the programs that are most benefit the public: Band in the schools, and the fireworks and pools in the city.

Okay but it is still a waste to build something like that and then have it sit.
Not understanding why they couldn't move the existing teachers and students in the new building, especially is it is more efficient than the old building. Someone, somewhere, messed up here, and it is probably more on the state level than the local level. I don't know for sure because I never followed the story. Failure to speculate into the future perhaps. Dunno.

This is personal opinion without one single verifiable fact.

Yes kdog I agree. Without going into details and possibly ticking off a few, there is nothing to justify the opinion.
