What cities or towns are around the Grand Cannon there? What is the winter/summer climate? Are there any cheap hotels around?

I love Williams, outside the road leading to the Grand Canyon. Even nicer in Supai, but you have to hike or fly in.

Williams is about the only decent place near The Canyon, KevK. Flagstaff is next.

As for the climate . . . remember, the elevation of The South Rim of The Canyon is about 7k feet. That spells COLD in the Winter and fairly moderate to cool temperatures in the Summer, especially evenings and nights.

The economy is doing great. However I do not wish to waste money. To me a hotel is a place to sleep and take a shower. I don't need to spend $200 a night to do that. I usually stay in Motel 6.

That's OK Kev. Google "Grand Cannon" and see what you get.

I believe it's called "The Grand Canyon", unless they named a town here after a big cannon that I'm not aware of!

Like everybody else mentioned here Williams is about 45 miles south of the park's entrance. It's elevation is about 6700 feet, and it has about the same climate as Flagstaff, cold in the winters, with snow, but it's very nice from the late spring through the summer and early fall. One thing that's nice about Williams is it's not crowded in the summer months like Flagstaff. Plus they have the Grand Canyon Railway that takes you from Williams to the Grand Canyon, which I hear is a fun ride.
