The % who are native surprised me. Thought it would have been less:

Guess how many Arizonans are natives?

Looking at this detailed chart is interesting(move your cursor/finger around on the chart):

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2...&abg=0#Arizona

The native population has stayed fairly constant % wise all the way back to 1900 up until now. Would also be interesting to see the breakdown in terms of what nations make up the 15% "Outside the US" that reside in AZ.

OK, I represent Germany of those born outside the US . It is also quite interesting that the population growths in AZ is fairly consistent since the white man came here in the 1870s or so.

My experience with AZ born and bred, they have, in general, never been to the Grand Canyon. Have you C C?

That's funny you could also ask the same question to most New Yorkers born and bred.If they ever visited the Statue of Liberty. Most probably have not.One of the first things i did visit in AZ was the Grand Canyon.

Actually made it up there twice, Cory. The best one was on the steam train from Williams, Arizona, which included on board music - and getting chased and stopped by train robbers (actors)!

Seen the Grand Canyon december 31 1993 with my wife and our little girl, the air was just clear, and not to warm.....

Drive a semi and love to sleep in Williams, just walk around in the evening, eat a litlle, nice little tourist town.

In the winter its probably less than 38% who are native born. There are as many as 400,000 winter visitors from out of state most of whom probably weren't born in Arizona. Florida and Alaska have fewer native born residents that Arizona which is one of the lowest.

Uh; the 1st known "white" people who came to what's now Arizona was probably about 1500, Spaniards.

Back on topic: throwing in the kids born here, the "native" number would def be high IMHO.
