Those that go to the Show Low, Pinetop, Springerville areas, can you give me some suggestions for lakeside cabins or lodges in the White Mountain areas? I see regular hotels in the area but something that would be more secluded or private like cabins or a lodge. Years ago, we stayed at Reed's Motel in Springerville and that was fine but not sure about anything else. We are not into fishing but looking for something peaceful that you could sit outside on a porch or veranda. Thanks for your answers.

If you really want a secluded spot near a river or lake, try Greer. There are lots of cabins & lodges in that area which you should look into. One of my recommendations is Red Setter Inn. In fact, I'd say practically anywhere in the White Mountains would be better than Eagar or Springerville. I don't even consider those towns to be truly in the White Mountains since they're at a lower elevation, and it's not very forested around there at all.

While I totally agree with you here, Eagar and Springerville are both at higher elevation than any of the other towns that the OP listed.

Thanks to those that responded. We just got back from Whispering Pines Cabins in Pine Top. I tried Red Setter but they were all booked up for the dates we wanted. WP was pretty good in most ways. They had a very well stocked kitchen and the rooms were adequate but not fancy. The jacuzzi was broken which was a disappointment. Although it is located on the main highway, it was mostly quiet and there was a nice back porch to relax and read or listen to music via ear plugs. I was amazed how Show Low, Lakeside and Pine Top have merged together. And after picking up a real estate paper, I can see why. Prices are really eye opening. We did go down to a couple of the lakes in the area. We tried 3 restaurants and it seemed like they were also having trouble getting people back to work. They were good, though. Coming back, we came through Eager and saw the cut off for Greer. I am sure those would be nice but certainly more remote.
