We are considering moving to Arizona somewhere along the river. We really like Parker but I have two horses and find no boarding under 30 miles away. If you know of horses keeping near by or know of cities along the river that would be 15 miles or less to horse boarding, please let me know.

There aren't any cities along the river within 15 miles of Parker other than Parker. Perhaps someone knows of someone on the Parker area who will board. You might want to advertise on Craigslist for what you are looking for.

Thank you for the reply. We would be interested in cities other than Parker (Bull Head etc) as long as we can keep the horses fairly close

Where I live outside of Bullhead you can have horses on your property if your lot's big enough.

Thank you Chaindrive. We have not spent a lot of time in Buill Head. What do you like (and if anything dislike) about the city. We are coming from the San Fernando Valley outside of Los Angeles so we know there will most likely be some adjusting. Hopefully a decrease in traffic and population.

I live about 20 minutes from Bullhead. I wouldn't live there because the lots aren't large like the one I have here in Mohave Valley. There are nice homes there, however. Only, I'm thinking what you're looking for is a lot large enough for your horses.

The only thing I don't really like about Bullhead is there is a definite lack of restaurants unless you go across the river into Laughlin. There is a Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart and a few grocery stores. A couple of hospitals. There will definitely be a decrease in population, and traffic.

Will you be retired or will you need to work? If you're retired, that's a plus.

I'm sure you already know this but hay is VERY pricey in AZ.

Hi Chaindrive - I am really looking to board rather than have them at home. I have had a couple of my horses home over the years but there is usually larger turn out, trail and arena access when you board. The affordability of water front or adjacent in Bullhead is our draw their.

We will work but most likely it will be home based. We have been driving toward that goal for a while. Even if work does become a commute I cannot imagine it being worse than Los Angeles rush hour. My 7 mile drive usually take over half an hour right now.

Adventuregurl - I feed Orchard and/or Timothy those are running around $26 and $36 a bale. The current ranch feeds orchard for a $40 a month up charge. I have not checked but assumed the hay cost would be similar since board seems to be quite a bit less. What are the going rates for hay. I think I heard alfalfa is in the 18 dollar range here.

I didn't know where you were coming from, or the currrent cost of your hay - I see you're in LA so I would imagine the price is comparable in Parker - I just know that in AZ there's a premium for hay.

And the premium especially applies to anything other than alfalfa, bermuda grass, or alfalfa/bermuda mix.

Makes me laugh at the days back in the 60's when my sister would be incensed that alfalfa hay went up to 2.00 a bale.
