There is an exit marked for a park with petroglyphs, a few miles off the highway. Sorry, I can't find the exact exit. The same exit is the location of a truly immense solar power installation.

The coastal mountains are quite scenic.

You have some good advice here. Last time we went that way, had a baffle stuck on the passenger side vent of the A/C of our Caddy. Wife had to sit in the back seat from Tuc. to SD so she could benefit from the rear A/C vents. Like driving Miss Daisy. LOL Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I do find the desert beautiful. And besides you can drive fast through there and make good time.

I love the rock formations in the mountains east of San Diego. It's like they were neatly placed there by somebody. The dunes are really cool and always get my attention. I love the desert, so it's always an enjoyable ride for me. Just be careful with your speed going in to Yuma. There always seem to be cops waiting there to nail somebody.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I have found that the western part of AZ whether on I-8 or I-10 is pretty bleak.

But it does get pretty scenic off I-8 when you can find the old US80 frontage roads just west of Imperial Valley.

happy trails!

Yes. Signs indicating that you're getting closer to San Diego.

Thanks, everyone. I would love to see Organ Pipe. I didn't realize that was along the route. Will allow some extra time to see it. Glad to hear about the parallel road to the interstate. I'm one of those crazies who always finds scenes I want to photograph along the interstate even in seemingly desolate areas, and cursing because there's nowhere to pull off to get the pic.

Organ Pipe along I-8? When did they move the Monument?

I looked on the map and it looks like Organ Pipe is way south of I-8. Looks like if I took hwy 86 out of Tucson instead of I-10 to I-8 I could go to Organ pipe and then head up to I-8 from there, but that might be quite a bit out of the way.

It's recommended by many because it's worth the trip to visit and you're not too far from it when on I-8.
