we are interested in moving to AZ and saw a home in Tubac that said the water came from a private well- un registered and we are not really sure what that means.

Means someone dug a well without a permit and that is usually illegal. You probably won't know the quality of the water, how much of a water table is available, correct equipment to operate the well etc.

It means it serves less than four households and is not required to test periodicly. Also is without water rights. Or at least that is how it was when I had my "Arizona Water Plant Operator One" license when I owned the well at Maricopa.

This might help ....... http://www.azwater.gov/azdwr/WaterMa...RWellIndex.pdf

and this is a great read on the subject ........ http://cals.arizona.edu/pubs/water/az1485.pdf

Here is the reason for the listing ....... http://www.in2wells.com/resources/pu...rs-for-agents/

I don't know the exact meaning of unregistered well, but I am fairly knowledgeable of registered wells in AZ.

If is something that is pretty common (Having a Well) in the Prescott area.

This site provides alot of detail about registered wells.

https://gisweb.azwater.gov/waterreso...lregistry.aspx

What I would interpret by the people saying they have an unregistered well is one, what Steve had mentioned, or two, the people who dug the well don't want to make any interpretations of the gallons per minute, depth of water, or quality of water.

If you are really interested in the home I would contact someone who can/will inspect the well and answer your questions you have on it. I.E. (Depth, Quality, Construction, etc.)

Hope this helps.

-Trent

No, it means just what it says. Unregistered as required by the State of Arizona.
