My family and I want to get out of the east valley to some cooler weather and views that aren't dust and cactus but we aren't huge fans of the small town life. Is there anywhere out there for us? Thanks in advance!

Flagstaff is the only place that might fit the bill. If it ain't enuff then try Colorado, N. California or Utah.

I'd look at Prescott too. It's warmer than Flag but much cooler than Phoenix and has lots of shopping and stuff to do.

Go a little further north and check out Boise. I escaped the heat up there for a few years and loved it. Only downside was the lack of jobs.

Flagstaff. It's known as "poverty with a view". Home prices are as high as the mountains and there are few jobs that pay anything. You have to come with money already. Show Low might be better. But it is probably going to be a small town in your definition.

when sitting in a traffic jam on Milton with hundreds of other tourists on a summer Sunday afternoon, Flag certainly doesn't feel small to me

Boise?? That's a tad too far north for Northern AZ, don't you think? Why would they be interested in Boise??

Take a look at Eager or Springerville.

Small towns but can be nice.

Prescott would be my first choice.
