Hello!

My name is AJ and I'm from Utah. I'm going to Yuma next Spring to attend Arizona Western College and then transfer to UofA or ASU. I've never been there before, but heard it's very hot all year round, but it's a nice place at all.

Let's put it this way...when Satan doesn't like the way someone's behaving, he threatens to send them to Yuma.

You can expect from 110 to 120 degrees from July thru Sept, it is tolerable tho', 100K year round residents think so anyway. Winter temps are hard to beat....100K snowbirds who arrive for the winter think so, it rarely frosts, you rarely need a coat, and has snowed only once...in 1932. Yuma has just about everything retail a person can ask for, no Costco, TJ's or Whole Foods....it has an airport with limited destinations, the Colorado River for fishing/boating...but not much night life for younger folks. The AZ Western campus is kind of isolated in the east portion of Yuma, but it is a nice campus, shared with Northern AZ University.

From the sound of what you wrote above, you are only going to be there for the spring semester? If so, you are arriving during Yuma's best times of the year. Winter is not too cold and the real heat doesn't come on until sometime in July. Despite what people tell you, Yuma is NOT that much hotter than Phx (ASU)

I attended AWC in the 70's and was an associate faculty member until I moved away. I think it is a decent CC, especially since it is paired with NAU.

It is not "very hot all year round" there. Of course not. If tends to be a few degrees warmer than Phoenix in the summer, so you will see more days over 110 than we have here. I don't know how many they had this past summer, when we had relatively few here.

Because the weather is nice in the winter, there are a lot of "snowbirds" who come to spend the winter. I would say there is not a lot for people your age to do there, so you will be able to concentrate on your studies. San Diego is a relatively short drive from there for a big change of scenery over a weekend once in a while. Not sure why you picked Yuma/AWC for what you want to do, but it is an option.
