Yes indeed. In Phoenix the average employer treats it's employees like a piece off cheap equipment. After a while, toss it out and get a new one. That is the main reason I left the AZ job market. And the below average pay.
And they wonder why they can not get motivated employees.....
I had literately people yelling at me who had absolute no clue what the job was about, just to show they are the boss.

Been working over 10 years for a company located out of Corona.

It's that kind of attitude that will never facilitate change.

+1

Every agency in AZ tasked with the protection of workers/residents/the common man has been defunded & neutered to the point of worthlessness.

Change will come when the "free market" demands it..

In this case, when employers realize that ripping off employees who "play by the rules" means employees stop "playing by the rules"..

I.E. - 2 weeks notice..

I once quit a job via email / with no notice - for an employer that liked to immediately fire those who gave notice (without compensation).

The "free market" allows them to fire people without notice, it also allows their employees to return the favor. Don't like it? Don't be a jerk employer!

You get what you give.

I suspect that the AZ Labor Department and OSHA, as well as the Federal DOL, EEOC, NLRB and OSHA would disagree.

But, that's another topic. Back to the OP. It's probably not worth litigation over, (though it would be small claims) but that's why I suggested an adminstrative agency.

Uh; not quite true. I was "fired" by a place because they expected to do work for free. I was piece work. I talked with the wage and labor board here; had a phone hearing, and the employer LOST the case. They had to settle up with me.

Thanks for the replies. I will absolutely push this issue. This employer has treated other co-workers far worse and it needs to stop. They're based in NY, so not really a Valley employer. But they count on people rolling over, which is how they continue to get away with it.

Somebody wins the lottery every week, it doesn't mean it's "common" to win the lottery.

I've dealt with the eeoc here in Phoenix for a family member & was told quite plainly that the employer very likely violated the law, and that they didn't have the resources to pursue the issue - but they'd gladly issue the letter necessary so you could sue on your own.

As for osha.. lol.. they'll certainly pursue employers who issue shovels that are too short, or those that *kill* their employees.. (or hospitalize more than three at a time!).. but unless you're dead, they don't have any teeth..

The Fed EEOC has given out right to sue letters from their offices all over the country for YEARS. It has nothing to do with Arizona. And some take those letters and do just that, sue. And some win. It's true that the EEOC can't file all the suits on their own. But again, that has nothing to do with AZ. Same with OSHA... fed OSHA has little or nothing to do with AZ. AZ OSHA does good work, and not just with fatalities.

Back to topic. Rick, we will be interested in your updates on this.
