Love love love Parker. Very quiet during the week. We have a family place on the Parker Strip
McDonald's, Kofa Laundromat, Best Western Motel, and PlugNgo Computers all have free wi-fi, off the top of my head.
Weekly (Saturday) Swap Meet at La Paz Park in the winter-time where you could sell art?

Xeriscaping? So that's what it's called?

Round these here parts we call it gravel and cactus.

OK seriously. There are million dollar homes on the river, half million dollar homes on the hill, aka the "Parkway," and $15,000 trailers that rent for $450 a month in the middle. There are good people and a lot of slimebags.

The roads might be the worst in the western US, but there are three dog parks. There are 11 casino hotels across the river that provide jobs. There are big name entertainers nearly every week, especially if you like country music. There's a very nice library. I guess it is what you want it to be.

It is the "most affordable" place in the country. Aka the poorest. If we could get the abanonded junk buildings buldozed (the city is trying, I think 30 are going this year) and get more small shops this would be as good as anyplace, especially for those who like dry heat.
I don't think our city is the "poorest" in the US by any means. lol

^^^ You are right. On Wikipedia we aren't even in the top 100 of the bottom. Although "Bullhead" So Dakota was #35 I think. Our nemisis city? LOL

Several AZ cities did make the list though, including Colorado City, AZ which is in our county (Mohave) where the mormon polygamists live.

A large region of the country known as Appalachia will probably take that title.

Although I've heard Mohave County referred to as the "Appalachia" of Arizona. I think on this forum somewhere. Just like I've heard people talk about parts of far Northern California the same way.

There are always people from richer parts of ANY state picking on less wealthy/more rural areas.

Ooh I'll definitely be doing the xeriscape thing. I've already researched into it!

I've been doing some more reading about the area, and does anyone here have any insight into the Twentynine Palms/Joshua tree area? The rent in 29 seems pretty decent too and Joshua Tree seems sort of artsy, lots of art residency programs and "funky" vacation rentals in decked out Airstreams. Should I drive out there too when I look at places to rent? Or not worth it?

Thanks a lot for the insight so far, everyone.

29 Palms - Major military presence, if that matters to you.
Joshua Tree - Major national park

I like Arizona better - cheaper and cleaner - but that's my opinion.
