Oh, let's not inject politics into this, and stick to the topic. It's economics. The most amount of houses possible on the piece of land drives up the builders' profits. So, the attached garage and narrow side yards, except on cul de sacs and corner lots, are part of what developed out of that squeeze.

You are not allowed to park RVs, boats, etc in Anthem. Not even in your yard.

Wow, that's a little unreasonable. I guess folks know what they're getting themselves into with restrictive covenants.

That's common not just in Anthem, but in other subdivisions in the Valley. That's why there are so many off site storage places for those things.

That's pretty much the norm with HOAs here. Try finding a new/nicer place without an HOA too. Pretty scarce anymore.

They SHOULD, but given the number of times I've seen people **** and moan about the "HOA Nazis that came out of nowhere to bother me for NO reason!!", it would a large number of them don't bother to read the CC&Rs before buying/moving in to see what they'll be in for. It's also something that rearing it's head in the Amateur/Ham radio world I'm also in, in that there is a proposed bill to basically render null any restrictions on ham radio antennas inside HOAs, because fellow hams are pissing and moaning about the restrictions they're under in these HOAs as well, and inability to erect "proper" antennas for the hobby.

Heck, we're even under HOA style rule in the city of Glendale, written into the city code. Only upside is lack of HOA dues, lol. Yep..it's a major problem for me. Nope..I didn't research enough before moving in Yep..moving out to a rural area now to get away from it all, lol.

As for the yards, yes, it is VERY different out here compared to what I was used to back in Michigan, and was a bit of a shock to me as well. Although interestingly, compared to two of the homes that I lived in while in Michigan, the house I'm in now in Glendale is 500-600 square feet bigger, and the lot is roughly the same at 7,000 square feet. But, the Michigan lots were considerably deeper than they were wide, with detached garages set back from the house. One Michigan house was built in 1960, the other in 1972. Both lots were roughly 50x140, with the front of the house facing the 50 feet side.

The lot in Glendale is 70x100, with the house facing a 70 side, and an attached garage facing the same as the house. Now, obviously with the larger house, it's going to take up more of the land, yet oddly both the houses and lots felt a WHOLE LOT bigger in Michigan. Even picturing a 2nd 2-car garage on the Michigan lots (which would be roughly 500 sq feet), it still feels like there would have been a lot more usable yard space there.

Although I'm currently just getting away from all of that, and moving to a 2 acre lot...where it really doesn't matter where the house is, I'm good on space

Did you read KurtAZ's post:
"You really don't want to leave things sitting outside in the AZ sun...it will destroy any type of plastic. Or store the toys at a storage facility."

With all due respect, Caddy, and as previously mentioned, the operative words in your case may just end up being: off-site storage facilities.
