I have been in AZ since the beginning of this year and one things that I noticed is that people use the passing "left" lane as their cruising lane. I mean these people are barely doing the speed limit! and sometimes you find semi's doing the same! what's the deal? why don't people pass and get over? free up the left lane so that you won't bottleneck all the traffic behind you... every time I see this behavior, I wish I had one one of these:

to push them out of my way!!!
Oh I almost forgot the people who feel they don't need to use turn signals when switching lanes. I just feel like ramming them off the road and watch their vehicles blow up behind me.

I made a post just like this several years ago. This is the most frustrating part of driving in the area. I have lived all over the country and have never seen it as bad as it is here.

Are they going the speed limit? If so they are obeying the law, not everyone wants to speed.

It's only a small number, but it only takes one to clog the fast lane. What's interesting is that even if I pass in front of them, they still don't get the message and as I look back, I can see them going seemingly even slower, with everyone else behind them stuck.

Not true. The "Slower Traffic Keep Right" signs are written in black paint on a white background, meaning it's compulsory, not advisory. If you get passed on the right or have people wanting to get around you and you're in the left lane, it doesn't matter how fast you're going - you're breaking the law and causing the problem. Furthermore, there is no highway around here where the flow of traffic is anything close to the posted speed limit. You are not the pace car. Move over.

I've had this issue in many cities it isn't exclusive to Phoenix. The concept that being passed on your driver's side is infinitely safer than people passing you on your passenger side, where you have a large blindspot, should be instilled upon every person who has to go to driving school for any reason. Likewise, I can appreciate a little pressure to remind the left lane driver to move over, but tailgating is a dangerous activity that should not be tolerated either.

You travel to the Right, you pass to the Left. Everybody who is not following this concept you are the problem, that's it.

Arizona seems to prefer the lamer "Slower Traffic Keep Right" signs to the more pointed "Keep Right Except To Pass" signs I see in other states.....who wants to admit they're "slower"?

I've been a passenger in cars where the driver camps out in the left lane and it's a burden not to yell out to move to the right!.....admittedly, these are very well-educated, decent people who just don't seem to get it (or were never taught)

when I was a kid in high school in the late 70s, drivers' ed was a very popular class.....I've heard this class has mostly disappeared from most high schools across the country....true?
