Hello, we would be grateful for your help. We currently imagine relocating to Kingman as it is impressive to us in many ways. Right now we live in the Midwest and got so tired of the extreme climate, in particular the humid summers. Considering the high temperatures in Arizona during the summer we would appreciate any advice / information about the heat and lower humidity in Kingman. Many thanks in advance !!!!

First you need to come visit and see for yourself that it would suit your needs.
We are High Desert 3500 or so feet elevation. Usually if it does snow it does not last. However the summer heat can last until the end of September
(I just returned from 4 months in Montana the end of September and it was still 100 degrees, I was ready to turn around and head back North).
As I have posted before we have the Hualapai Mountains just south and it is our hidden gem. There is the lodge up there so we have a close cool place to go eat and or stay the night.
Kingman does not suit everyone and we will have the usual posters chiming in that Kingman is the worst place in the world to live.

Rambush has the right idea.

Summers in Montana or Colorado and winter in Mohave Cty. Summer here is from the end of March until just before Halloween. Nov-Feb is really nice. Nice and windy...

I looked into living up by the Hualapais, until a brush fire burns you out. Sigh.

Kingman is 5-10 degrees cooler than the Colorado River valley. You're only an hour and half from Flagstaff.

We are also from the Midwest Northwest Indiana. Usually 6months of cold, and 6 months of rain, humidity, and a mix of unseasonably cool or hot and humid weather. When we visited Kingman in the beginning of September the 90 degree dry temperatures felt pretty good to us. We spent one night at Hualapai Mountain lodge. It was cooler. I needed a light sweater at night, but I get cold easily. What we like about Kingman: The mountains, friendly helpful people, a variety of restaurants, grocery stores, and shopping. The weather seems like it is nice for the most part. We were warned about the wind, but we live close to Chicago also known as the windy city so I think it will be alright Affordable housing in nice neighborhoods. We looked at Walleck Ranch, Hualapai Shadows, Southern Vista's, Castle Rock, Canyon Bluff estates, and a few others. We spoke to people who live in the subdivisions, and they stated they like Kingman. Several people we spoke to relocated from California, the Midwest, and a few from the East coast, some have lived in Kingman all their lives. A few people asked why we would move from the Midwest it is SO green and beautiful. Well we are tired of taking care of all that green, and not being able to sit outside because of the bugs or temps. In Kingman we did see some bugs, but we were still able to sit and take walks outside without getting a tick on us, mosquito bites, or having bugs fly in your face. Everyone we spoke to did state that they do have their homes sprayed on the outside and so scorpions etc. aren't a problem. It is an easy drive to Laughlin, Las Vegas and Bullhead City. The visitors center was very nice and had a lot of info. We love the state of Arizona and being able to visit place within the state on a weekend trip. What we didn't like was Walmart. A lot of questionable looking people with some mobile homes parked in the parking lot, I thought the library was small for a town the size of Kingman, and they also had 2 security guards. That made me wonder WHY they MIGHT need 2 security guards. As everyone knows no place is perfect or has perfect weather, but Kingman is affordable and meets the needs of what we are looking for. We are coming back in January and if all goes well we will start building shortly after that.

As far as the heat is concerned this is probably our only concern and we would be glad to receive some more information. We are used to high humidity in the Midwest. Thanks for any information!

100F in Kingman's a HOT summer day, it's pretty brutal in the direct sun. But; the humidity's usually very low compared to like Chicago where 85F is just nasty.

One word: Wind. All of Northern Arizona is windy, and Kingman is no exception. It is definitely hotter than other Northern Arizona communities such as Prescott and Flagstaff (and several notches below them in many other respects as well).
