Does anyone know which of the larger retirement communities (say, > 3,000 homes) have golf cart accessible grocery stores? Not a convenience store, a real grocery store. Also, the same for a Walmart type store.

Maybe things have changed lately, but there was a time when golf carts could get a real license plate. One time, I was at Sun Lakes, south of Phoenix, and people were using golf carts to go to the grocery store. From what I saw, they had to cross one street. Not much of a big deal, but there was a real grocery store there.

Sun City. We have several grocery stores accessible to housing here. Safeway is right around the corner from us.

I knew about Sun City. I'll be in Arizona next August to tour retirement communities. One thing I'd like is to be near a grocery store so I can get there by golf cart. There are so many retirement communities in Arizona, I want to pare down the number I visit in advance. I love the home prices in Sun City as well as Sun City West. I'll look more closely at Sun Lakes. Thanks.

Sun City Merrill Ranch has a golf cart path that leads directly to the Safeway located right outside the development. No need to cross any streets. Some days there are more golf carts than cars in the parking lot.

When you tour communities look for access to grocery stores along roads from your prospective house that are 35 MPH or less. You can cross a road with a speed limit over 35 MPH but you can't drive on a road that is over 35 MPH with a golf cart. That is the legal guidance. People do it anyway, but legally those are the road golf carts are allowed to drive on.
