My GF and I are moving to Arizona this year and we have heard it gets up around 110 and 120 in the summers. How long do these temperature last? We are coming from NY and we're ready for some heat.

110 and up does happen, often in several day stretches, most often in the summer months, June, July, August. 100's and up far more often than not May through September, sometimes into October. Nighttime temps don't cool down much when the humidity increases, as it does for a few months in summer. Highest low temp on record is 95 or 96-- I remember that day!

You may like it, you may not. There are lots of threads here discussing the heat, you can find them with a search. Come visit for a week or so in the summer (late July, August) and get an idea before you pack up and move.

I've lived here for a long time. I have met an umpteen amount of people just like you from NY and the Midwest who moved here exclusively for warmth and sunshine. It almost never lasts more than a few years.

Come out here and actually experience what the heat feels like, it's unlike anything you have ever felt in NY. You might find it tolerable, you might hate it, you might enjoy it who knows.

Odds are it will wear you down in a few years if you move here BECAUSE of the sunshine.

Here are how the 'seasons' work for me at least.

May-September=Summer, these are months where it is over 100 degrees regularly during the day, May-June is hot and dry; July-September is 'Monsoon' season where it can be humid w/ periodic night time thunderstorms.

October-November; February-April=Intermediate, these are months where it is generally 70-95 during the day regularly, these are where the weather peaks for most people.

December-January=Winter, for a few weeks it is actually a little nippy and dry out, probably 50 during the day and overnight between 28-40 degrees.

The out of state plates flock in between November and March and cause a ruckus.

Stay for a week or so in June/July.

The oft-overlooked 'feature' of our summers isn't the heat itself, it's the relentless nature of it. It's hot day and night for months.

That's why it's hard to predict how the OP will react to weeks/months of heat, even though a week is tolerable. It is true that you need to have another reason to move here than being tired of the cold/wanting more sun. Those who move only for that often don't last long.

Most people age 50 or older come for the heat and the cheap prices. Get a pool and you'll never look back. We really need a weather sticky thread.

Sticky numbers are limited, so that's a no go. I would like to see only one really active thread on the subject at a time, but that's me.
