I'd definitely take the picturesque desert scenery of AZ over the ever-cloudy PNW any day of the week. I will admit that while the gun thing doesn't scare me, the other arguments seem pretty valid in keeping me in NM for the time being.
All in all, I'm still longing for some place that doesn't experience Winter, or any heavy days of wet weather.

So while there are some negatives to deal with, the hot and the desert mountains are enough to persuade me towards the area. That and it's close enough to CA to experience its amenities once again.

The best climates and scenery in the state are lacking in stable high paying jobs so one has to settle for weekends in these parts when having to make a living during the week in the Urban Heat Island of Phoenix. 3500 to 5000 ft the best climate and the air quality pristine. If you are willing to commute from Globe or Payson to PHX you do not have to deal with the horrible traffic and air quality outside of work hours. If you are a millionaire buy in Desert Mountain Ranch north of Carefree which sits above 3000 ft altitude as well. Otherwise...get ready for yearning for escaping PHX every weekend for relief.

I currently do milk truck driving and loading as a job out here in eastern NM/west TX. From what I keep hearing, companies down there in the same field tend to pay about 20% less than what I currently make out here. I don't know if this has to with winter hazard pay that's quietly made a part of the higher pay rate out here in the Plains, or if it's just hard to keep people out here due to the distance from everything.

Only solution I could think of is cutting expenses prior to moving down there in order to absorb the difference.

No, no, no. The OP is absolutely right. Arizona is a HORRIBLE place. In addition to all those nasty things he pointed out the whole state is infested with rattlesnakes and scorpions, and refugees from Washington and California.

Not only that, we have Indians! WILD Indians! Have you been to an Indian casino? If that's not a wild time I don't know what is."

Not only that but we have dust storms that blot out the sun for days, which is ok since nothing grows here but cactus anyway. And then when it does rain the dust turns it to mud. Yes, we have mud rain!

And not only do Arizonans carry GUNS! But switchblade knives are legal here, and so are MACHINE GUNS! Yes, it's true, the Colorado River runs red with the blood of the millions who are gunned down in our streets everyday. It's all kept under wraps by the corrupt government.

Not only that but the very same govt STEALS our local road money to squander on frivilous stuff like education. As a result you need a 4x4 truck to get around. Don't forget the gun rack to carry your AR15!

Not only that but the whole north part of the state is cut off from the rest of the country by a giant hole in the ground. They really ought to fill it in because it is quite dangerous, every year several people fall off the edge and get killed. Where is OSHA when you need em?

Then there is Sedona, it's full of kooks looking for crystal, or something.

Speaking of which, then there is our hero, Sheriff Joe! He has singlehandedly stopped crime statewide. I mean who wants to wear pink underware in jail?

At least all the illegal aliens left.

Then there is Lake Havasu, it's full of young people. Young people on boats. Young people on boats in bathing suits, drinking and having a good time. How dare they!

And finally, I apologize to the country on behalf of all Arizona for having inflicted John McCain upon you for all these years. And for Barry Goldwater.

So with that if you are still considering moving to this awful place...
