My point exactly. Arizona's climate -- or, more specifically, the climate of the low desert in and around Casa Grande -- is dreadfully hot in the summertime (i.e., early May to early October).

IMO, if a major amusement park was ever to be built in Arizona, the area around Prescott would be a more ideal location from a standpoint of climate, even though it gets pretty chilly in that area during the wintertime; you would, at the very least, attract people from the hotter nearby cities (i.e., Phoenix, Tucson, Las Vegas) looking to escape the brutal heat of the valleys. However, the freeway infrastructure in that area is virtually non-existent.

Traffic would be "challenging" around any theme park.

"Hundreds killed enroute to theme park when dust chokes I-10 and visibility goes to zero."

"Theme park sued over rattlesnake bite."

"Five heat strokes in theme park parking lot before noon."

"Theme park in the middle of nowhere draws few patrons."

"Retirees say there goes the neighborhood with new theme park."

Sorry folks, this is the first time I had ever heard of a theme park proposal in AZ much less Casa Grande. These places usually provide low paying jobs in the service industry. In any case, I am fairly sure I will be long buried before such a project gets underway. I should think a better location would be in Phoenix or very nearby.

Cheers all.

It's actually the second in recent years. The first one was under construction when the economy collapsed. You can still see it off I10 near [Eloy?] Golf Course.

Hmmm.... My broker might have invested some of my money in that. Figures.

Well actually - that one was a project started in 1995. From an article recently pointed out the previous attempts in Pinal County alone:

Theme park ideas that never happened in Pinal County | Area News | pinalcentral.com

"The blue, birdcage-like structures stationed near the freeway were intended to be part of a drive-through zoo called Family World Adventures. In 1995, Richard Songer began planning the zoo on 157 acres off Milligan Road that was to house a number of non-carnivorous African animals."

Still - this SEEMS to be different so far - and as I have said - there is a big difference between skepticism and opposition. I am hoping this time will be different - only time will tell for sure.

I was thinking it was that Rock and Roll theme park they proposed right before the recession. I didn't realize those structures had been there for so long.

There is another theme park plan that pops up on the radar every couple of years for a more modest theme (a few hundred acres) park up by Williams AZ. So far no movement on that as far as I can tell. it isn't a bad idea if they can get water for it. If I lived up there I'd probably hate the idea though.

Prescott would be too traffic constrained without a major overhaul of the 69 and the 89. Some stretches along there would be difficult to expand. I'm sure developers up where would love the idea though. Again water issues, and the heat in the summer does reach 100+ at times up this way, just not nearly as consistently as the Phoenix metro and South of the Phoenix metro.
