Valley Fever.. I thought that was a Disco Dance...

Sorry - Yes, you should definitely get checked out if you have excessive cough and your throat has a dry and scratchy feel to it.

Everything I read there is pretty extreme... It can't be that hazardous can it?

I worked for 4 years as a physician in Phoenix. And to answer your question, yes, it can.

I can imagine something like that causing problems for the elderly but come on now.. they make it seem so extreme.

8,000 people got Valley Fever in the U.S. last year.. Get out the facemasks!!

It CAN be dangerous, but those stories don't represent the typical experience. In the vast majority of cases people don't even know they were infected. Kind of like West Nile, I guess (we have that too ).

According to my calculations, you have a 0.16% chance of even aquiring this illness and an 8% chance of dying from it..

There's no denying that it can be serious and even fatal. As I've said before, if you live here, you'll be exposed: I was. But almost 46 years later, I'm still doing just fine. The handful of tiny spots on my lungs never harmed me. I was running 5 minute miles even after they were first noticed in the mid 1970s.

Of course I may be a mutant. I was also smoking 1.5 packs of cigarettes per day and doing 5 minute miles.

You are using the past tense here. Did you leave Arizona because of the air quality?

I read a report today about the EPA listing a large amount of counties that have unbreathable air, but I have not been able to find info that tells what these counties are.

The article said that many people are dying too early from breathing problems due to air quality. Phoenix and its brown cloud is worrisome to me.
