Hmm...not sure...we keep losing dogs every time they step outside to do THEIR business. I keep finding piles of ash with their collar buried in it.

Some dogs like their privacy.

OP, taking your dog for a walk would be a novel idea as well. I'm dogless at the moment, but I would walk my dogs twice a day, EVERY DAY. 5:30 AM and 9:30 PM. My last dog was a shepherd mix and died at 14.5 years old. She died of old age, not the heat.

that's what we plan on doing when we move out there next week; those 2 exact time slots appear to be the best until things cool down a bit..

We planted a patch of grass at our house more to consolidate my dog's poop and pee area than concerns about heat. He does pee in the grass which is great since the grass and soil naturally degrade the urine smell. He does poop in the grass sometimes, but prefers the mulched landscape areas! Oh well. He pretty much has defined areas at least. Anyway, heat is not a concern for short term paw exposure unless your dog is especially sensitive... except blacktop/asphalt

Assuming you have never been to the state to make that assumption???

Fake grass would only be to save water, it actually gets hotter than gravel in my experience.

We have golf courses everywhere. No need to cruise around looking for grass - it's all over.
