I think it is incredibly destructive to society to remove historical monuments that show the progress that we have made as a nation and remind us of the blood that was spilled to make that progress

Depends if you think the Confederate states were the good guys or bad guys.

Technically... Confederate states withdrew from the Union without authorization. So sure, that's history, but why keep it around if it's a stain? I don't see any other historical monuments that signifies other horrible events that happened. What about slavery? The lynchings? Etc...

"Progress" of a nation is measured based on positive things/historical events that happened. Not negative ones. The Confederacy isn't positive as far as I know.

Your post proves my point historical monuments mean different things to different people.
Confederate monuments remind me of the hundreds of thousands of brave white Americans who gave their lives to end slavery. Confederate monuments obviously mean something different to you.

Confederate states withdrew from the union because of the attempt to end slavery and/or pass laws that makes it unfavorable for slaveholders. Their intent was to keep slavery (or maintain favorable laws for slaveholders), whereas the Union opposed those laws.

If your statement was true, you'd be supportive of the Union not the Confederacy. Hence, back to square 1 of my post.

I am telling you what these historical monuments means to ME, you do not get to tell me what a monument means to me or anyone else. You can only say what it means to you.
Again I am telling you that these monuments make me think of the hundreds of thousands of brave white Americans who overcame the confederacy to end slavery and died in the process.

I could not agree more, Autism . . . THANK GOD for Governor Ducey.

HISTORY IS HISTORY and only a Gaggle of Fools would believe that removing and/or destroying a monument means the event did not take place.

No one agrees with all the events in our history but . . . HISTORY IS HISTORY.

While I agree history is history, it's important to point out that Arizona's Confederate monuments were not actually erected until 1943 after southerners began relocating to Arizona. Most of them were actually a direct response to the civil rights movement and not to the Civil War, which happened 80 years earlier. One was just erected in 2010.

In that light, I can see why people would want to tear them down here specifically.

So...we have 6 apparently...a couple of battle markers and some Sons/Daughters of the Confederacy plaques. Should we tear them down? To what end? So someone doesn't get offended/reminded that the Civil War happened? Most people don't even know there WERE Civil War Battles that took place in AZ and NM...so coming upon one unexpectedly would be a point of interest or teaching moment with the kids.

Now on the other hand...I can see where some folks don't like statues of prominent Confederates...they feel like we shouldn't be celebrating or displaying traitors to the United States much less people who fought to maintain slavery...and I can see that...but you are not going to erase history by banning the Confederate Flag and tearing down memorials. Seems like it would be much more of a local preference thing. If you don't like the memorial, have the town vote on it and decide if it goes away or not. I am not, however, in favor of removing battle markers and/or Graveyard War Memorials.

On the other hand, if "the people" once felt that a statue or monument should be erected to honor someone, cannot now a different group of "the people" decide that it's time for a statue or monument to come down?

I bet most of the virtue signaling white guilt leftists don't realize Democrats were the party of slavery, segregation, Jim Crow, and the KKK. What's next after the mob tears down these monuments? Are they going to storm into DC and destroy the Jefferson Memorial? Are they going to burn down Monticello it's in Charlottesville? How about going after all those evil Colonialists slave owners.
