I'm picking up a small car near Bouse and flat towing it back to Minnesota. My tow vehicle is a smaller size suv 5 spd manual with 2500 tow limit and the toad is 2000 lbs. I would like to know the best route to avoid as many steep hills and as much traffic as possible. Can you help me? Thank you.

just about your only choice is AZ 72 W to AZ (not US) 95 N to I-40 thru Parker and Lake Havasu City......it's two-lane (one in each direction) for most of the way, but contains very few hills of consequence....(the hills, mountains, and traffic come AFTER you get on the interstate!!!!)

Is that I-40 route from Lake Havasau to Flagstaff as hilly as I-17 from Anthem to Flagstaff? Just curious. Thx a bunch!

Yes. There are significant climbs between Havasu and Flagstaff. Havasu is 736 feet ASL while Flagstaff is almost 7000 feet ASL. You could consider just taking I-10 into Texas and figure out how to shuffle your way back on track. I don't know how else you can escape the west without some steep climbs.

I-10 --> I-20 --> I-35 should probably do the trick.

There is a climb out of Tucson going on 10, but nothing like some of the other mountains in this part of the country

Nothing to compare with what the I-40 route has. I'd take that southern route as well.

How does that I-40 route, Kingman to Flagstaff, compare with the I-17 route?
The only one that I'm really familiar with is I-17 from Phoenix to Flagstaff.

You have two upgrades between Kingman and Flagstaff, one about 30 miles east of Kingman where you climb from 3,500 to 5,000 feet; and another one halfway between Ash Fork and Williams where you climb the Mogollon Rim and climb from 5,000 to 6,500 feet. Both climbs are 6% grades for about 5 miles
