I own a home there in the Las Conchas neighborhood. It would loose it's laid back feeling if Az. we're to annex it.
And since we are discussing it, what would you do with Sonoyta?

And when, and how, do you think the state of Arizona could have annexed land belonging to another country? This is a completely ridiculous discussion, IMO.

Have you people never heard of international law? Maybe Mexico should annex everything south of San Diego.

While it is kind of a silly discussion, obviously a State cannot and has no legal means to extend its borders outside the international borders of its parent country, the idea should have taken place at the end of the Mexican-American War. I seriously doubt our present Administration has any desire or backing to enter into discussions concerning the United States "annexing" any of Mexico's land. It would need to be outright purchased or taken by force, neither of which is a priority right now.

Personal opinion? We ought to just lump Mexico right in with the US, establish the existing Mexican States as parts of the US and use our resources to clean out the bad guys. No more "build a wall", huge decrease in illegal immigration (Mexico has a TINY Southern border to patrol), a ton of new coastline to enjoy...win win, right?

From what I understand, the U.S. already annexed more land in AZ and NM than was in the original treaty because they wanted to build a southern railroad.

during the Gadsden Purchase negotiations (1853), Mexico wanted to retain an all-land route to its Baja territory....being the nice people we are, the US agreed......

besides, when the border surveyors were moving west as they marked the new boundary, they got thirsty.....and the nearest bar was in Yuma
