What city or area in AZ would be an alternative to Phoenix that also has basically no snow or less than 5 inches a year , and doesnt get colder than 40 in the winter? I thought maybe a little north in Carefree or New River .

Are you still trying to stay in proximity to Phoenix? If so, you might want to ask a mod to move this post to the Phoenix forum.

Carefree and New River will still be HOT in summer, if that's what you are trying to avoid. They are just on the outskirts of the Phoenix metro, and a bit higher in elevation. A bit cooler in the day, and probably noticeably cooler at night, but still desert. Those places can get below 40 in the winter, if Phoenix area is having a cold snap.

A little more information will help give you more guidance.

Even Phoenix gets colder than 40 in the winter...not as a high but we usually get at least one good freeze in Jan/Feb. I think you are looking for Prescott or somewhere up on the Rim like Payson or Pine. If you don't care about proximity to Phoenix you could look at Show Low.

within 35 minutes to Phoenix. I can deal with 30s for a day or few , just no snow . It would be a bonus if said place had less scorpions too lol .

Many nights are in the 40s in PHX, several in the 30s. No snow at low elevations, though you can get flurries from time to time. Scorpions? Theyre a way of life here. Some areas have no issues, others are plagued. Find a neighborhood you like, visit it in deep summer, and ask neighbors if they have scorpion problems or not.

Anywhere within 35 minutes of Phoenix is going to deal with the summer heat. There just isn't enough elevation change immediately around Phoenix to make a difference and then there is the heat island effect. Payson is about an hour to hit Fountain Hills (65 miles) and will give you about 10-15 degrees cooler temperatures. New River is probably only a 5 degree difference.

This is why, and maybe the only reason why, Tucson is cool. They have a 9k ft mountain range next to them and it takes maybe a few hours to drive up but you are still in the same city. You get the same climate and flora as Flagstaff but you haven't left the city limits. They also have access to other sky islands that are pretty.

When you find that mythical not-too-hot, not-too-cold but just-right area within 35 minutes of Phoenix, buy up all the land you can because the rest of us are going to want to move there, too.

I don't know if it completely fits the bill but I am considering Prescott (someday) for similar reasons.
