I just heard this on KJZZ today, that China's refusal to take American trash (what a metaphor!) is making some cities re-think their policies.

Sierra Vista Residents Will Have To Take Recyclables Farther Than Their Blue Bins | KJZZ

I don't see what the problem is for Arizona, though. We can just dump everything in the Grand Canyon.

Noticed this in the Arizona Daily Star today, too. This info about China's new stance has been out for some months. The Arizona Daily Star did a series on what can and can't be put into recycle now. It was a popular series, according to letters to the editor. People are pretty confused about what they could recycle, turns out; but less so now since China unfortunately stopped taking it. Our home trash has increased a lot more. We used to put quite a bit of plastic in the recycle. Industries are looking for alternatives to plastic packaging what with the horrendous press the plastic continents floating on the oceans get and being ingested by even creatures in the Marianas Trench. And I do appreciate that; but they aren't really there yet. Still a lot of plastic containers.

On Monday, at the city council meeting, Casa Grande city staff will recommend that our recycling program be suspended indefinitely effective July 1st.

China taking trash? Why so? Hard to believe this.
