Last night here in N Scottsdale... nothing.
But we saw rain to the south of us.
Geez, these monsoon cells are impressively localized.
This AZ monsoon storm is so different than the rest of the country where between heavy cells you have widespread light rain, whereas here between cells you have sunlight LOL.

that's true; during the storm we had last night, more than 1/2 the night sky was clear, and I could see the stars standing outside watching the storm..very unusual, but I guess normal for out here..

Some good cells in Kingman this afternoon after work. Not bad, but not Monsoon-like...just more thunderstorm like.

Default Storm Damage

That 'big one' we had a few days ago caused some damage on my street. It actually 'dug' a ditch at the end of my driveway and it's really hard to get in and out. The city is on it this morning though. I called to see if they'd just send someone out to check on it and let me know if it's city or property owner responsibility. It's city! Yay! Evidently this is not the first time because the 'new' ditch is full of big rocks that were covered over and got washed out this time. Some of the street pavement has fallen off as well and material washing out under it. My yard is all rock but I've got some bare places now where the rock washed out. Just need a BIG rake to fix it. One other house on the street reported same kind of damages so they are working there too. I think it's because we are on an incline so the water runs faster and harder.

Hard to believe but that storm really was a mini-hurricane. Only one I've ever experienced that was worse...and lasted a lot longer...was in Oct. 1962, Oregon coast Columbus Day storm. I love Monsoon season but this was way more than just a Monsoon 'storm'. It'll be interesting to see what the city does and hope it doesn't get that bad again. I thought about just filling the whole thing with concrete. lol

From the US Drought Monitor site... they are right, disappointing for sure. https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/

Quote:
So far, the 2019 southwest monsoon has been mostly disappointing, with parts of Arizona and the Four Corners region experiencing their driest summer on record mostly due to the notable lack of monsoon rainfall... For example, Flagstaff, AZ has only received 1.15” of rain since June 15 (driest on record) when 6.10” should have fallen by now, and several nearby stations (Prescott, Heber, Payson, Winslow) have also measured near-record low monsoon totals.

Some heavy storms down here this afternoon. Not much lightning, but a steady rain. Now winds are picking up and seems like we'll get more rain. *yeehaw!*
